The first video conference capacity building workshop on Pandemic (COVID-19) Policy, Trade and Economic Cooperation was held from 27th to 28th May 2020 with the collaboration of Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations (MIFER), Australian Aid and Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).
U Than Aung Kyaw Director General of Foreign Economic Relations Department, Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations and 30 representatives from different ministries and agencies joined the workshop from their related offices via video conference.
According to the program, Director General U Than Aung Kyaw and Ms. Vanessa Hegarty, First Secretary of the Australian Embassy of Myanmar addressed the opening remarks. The workshop was moderated by Mr. Jeremy Gross, Director of Capacity Building of ERIA, and Professor Shandre Mugan Thangavelu, Institute for International Trade, University of Adelaide also served as lead facilitator.
During the workshop, open discussions were focusing on the socio-economic impact of COVID-19 in the ASEAN region, the relationship between the pandemic and economic shock in domestic and regional economy, the policy responses to trade and investment in ASEAN region, and the prospects of structural transformation and Policy on Relief, Stimulus and Recovery of Global Value Chains in ASEAN and East Asia region.
